3. Data Collection & Processing

We prioritize user privacy and minimize data collection. The Extension only processes data when a user actively requests fact-checking.

3.1 Information We Collect

✔️ User-Provided Data

• If a user manually enters a Perplexity API key, it is stored securely and encrypted within Chrome's local storage.
• Payment details are processed via Stripe and never stored by the Company.

✔️ Automatically Processed Data

• Fact-checking queries: When a user highlights text and requests fact-checking, that text is sent to Perplexity's API for processing.

• Temporary Context Storage: The extension may temporarily store metadata (e.g., page title, URL) only for the duration of the request.

• Subscription and Credits: Chrome's local storage keeps track of remaining credits, subscription status, and settings (e.g., language preference).

• Browser Fingerprint: To prevent trial abuse and recognize returning users, we generate and store a browser fingerprint that includes:

  • Browser user agent
  • Language settings
  • Platform information
  • Timezone data
  • Extension ID
  • Installation timestamp

  This fingerprint is stored in Supabase and used solely to prevent multiple free trials on the same device and to restore purchased credits or subscriptions if you reinstall the extension. The fingerprint does not contain personally identifiable information and cannot be used to track your browsing activity.
